Tuesday, March 22, 2011 American blues musician Pinetop Perkins, a first generation Delta bluesman, died in Austin, Texas, on Monday at the age of 97. His death was announced by his agent, Hugh Southard. Perkins suffered from a cardiac arrest as he took a nap and paramedics failed resuscitate him. During his 80-year career Perkins remained active until the end, even performing publicly as recently as last month. The Saville Inquiry, a twelve-year-long public inquiry into the fatal shooting, published their 5,000-page report; stating, the deaths were “unjustified”. Bull moose shot by police in Alaska
Sunday, October 18, 2009 University of Alaska Anchorage campus police shot a bull moose on Thursday after it became entangled within fencing material. The animal was reportedly in an “agitated state” when it got its antlers stuck in a fence used to support young trees. Attempting to free itself, the moose struggled as it began moving towards the campus’s Fine Arts Building. Stolen laptop found; had over 98,000 students’ personal data
Sunday, September 18, 2005 San Francisco police have recovered a laptop stolen on March 11 from the University of California, Berkeley. The laptop was left unattended in the Graduate Division and contained personal information on 98,369 graduate students and applicants going as far back as 1976. This information included names, birth dates, addresses, and Social Security numbers. Oil-eating microbe found in the Gulf of Mexico
Saturday, August 28, 2010 A group of researchers led by Terry Hazen, a senior ecologist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, have discovered a new species of microorganism. Hazen’s team started research in May this year. Their findings were based on more than 200 samples collected from 17 deep-water sites in the Gulf of Mexico between May 25 and June 2. English court jails policeman over insurance fraud
Thursday, July 1, 2010 A court in England, UK has jailed a policeman for ten months after he was convicted of defrauding his car insurance company. Police Constable Simon Hood, 43, arranged for a friend who dealt in scrap metal to dispose of his Audi TT, then claimed it had been stolen.
